Brain abscess caused by Nocardia asiatica
BACKGROUND Nocardia infection of the central nervous system leading to brain abscess is a rare condition but has a high mortality rate. Among the species of Nocardia, only three cases of brain abscess due to Nocardia asiatica infection have been reported. CASE DESCRIPTION A 65-year-old man with a history of autoimmune hemolytic anemia treated with prednisolone presented to our hospital becaus...
متن کاملPosttraumatic brain abscess caused by Aeromonas hydrophila.
Posttraumatic brain abscesses are usually caused by Gram-negative bacilli, notably Enterobacteriaceae and Staphylococcus aureus. Although Aeromonas hydrophila is a recognized cause of trauma-related sepsis, it has not been previously isolated from posttraumatic brain abscesses. We describe the first case of Aeromonas hydrophila brain abscess.
متن کاملRare case of cryptogenic brain abscess caused by Raoultella ornithinolityca
Cerebral abscess is a potentially fatal neurosurgical condition, despite improvements in technology, new antimicrobial agents and modern neurosurgical instruments and techniques. I report the case of a 64-year-old woman, affected by a right frontobasal brain abscess, compressing the homolateral frontal horn of lateral ventricle, with a second mass partially occupying the right orbital cavity. S...
متن کاملFirst report of a brain abscess caused by Nocardia veterana.
Among Nocardia species causing infections, Nocardia veterana is rarely isolated and is mostly described as causing pulmonary infections. This is the first presentation of a case of brain abscess attributable to an N. veterana infection in a patient with type 2 diabetes. Prolonged antibiotic therapy with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole led to successful clinical recovery.
متن کاملBrain abscess caused by Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens in an immunocompetent patient.
We describe a previously healthy patient with chronic otitis media complicated with cerebellar abscess caused by Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens. The organism was identified based on conventional biochemical identification methods, PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of the hsp65 gene, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The patient was treated successfully with debridements and prolon...
